Very sturdy construction. It seems a little big for my Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 2 fish finder but I would be confident of supporting a much larger fish finder on it. You could probably use it to mount a small TV! Try it at your own risk :) I have used the smaller 1" ram mount ball mounts to mount other electronics in my car and boat. If you are experienced with these standard items you will be impressed with the size of the ball mounts and the quality is on par with other ram mount products I have used. My only operational complaint is that my sonar now tends to vibrate and is difficult to read at low trolling speeds (stable at faster trolling and idling). I seem to be hitting the sweet spot with the resonant frequency in my boat. It's mounted with a tiller on a seat at the back of my boat. I'm sure it depends a lot on the mounting location and the engine's operating vibration frequency, so I wouldn't say that it would be a problem for most users.
