Review on πŸ”© Premium CAMO Edge Stainless Steel Screws: Superior Durability and Ultimate Rust Resistance by Dustin Keller

Installation was a bit secure

I was surprised at how small the screws were. I hope they do the job as they hold the boards well during installation. Before purchasing, I consulted with a camo tech about the issues some were having with bolts breaking. (I'm guessing during the freeze and thaw cycles). He confirmed that stainless steel is less likely to break and that they were recommended for my 5/4 cedar deck installation. something to do with tannins in the wood and screw stains on the wood. It didn't make sense to me, but I didn't want to end up with broken screws, so I was willing to pay the extra money. There is a significant cost difference between coated and stainless steel, and by the way, stainless steel is also coated. I had several screws that didn't fully sink. They appeared to be undressed and would not go in or out, making it impossible for me to remove the instrument. I ended up drilling them out. Not too big of a deal, but a little frustrating. I've used Bowrench on some fairly warped boards and chisels to pry outwards and so far the stealth bolts have held up pretty well. The product advertises that a box of 1750 units is good for approximately 500 square feet of decking. I think it could be more accurate for 16 inch center distance. I used a foot of center spacing and seem to get over 400 square feet of flooring. The tool fits great and if you drive straight along the self-drilling screw it goes through the wood like butter. Nothing has ever broken there. This deck is 43 feet long and all gaps appear straight and even throughout. One great thing about the Auger designed auger and my rather knotty cedar is the way they cut the knots, whether into the deck boards or the joists. Good luck with a nail or regular screw. It's really cool how these things pierce and don't spit into wood or break! Overall, the deck looks like someone who knew what they were doing did their job.
