Review on Gates 45006 Water Pump: Efficient Performance and Reliability for Long-lasting Operation by Khiam Burton

The main complaint in the reviews is the breaking of the bolts of the thermostat housing. The spec calls for 11 ft-lbs, which is the maximum torque for this small screw. Where Gates screwed up is the length of the bolt. The stock bolt is about 1/4" longer, which is a noticeable difference from the aluminum threads in the case. Personally, I used some RTV and downgraded the torque to 8 ft-lbs and used the stock bolts. If it starts to leak, I can always go back and tighten the bolts to 11 ft lbs. I recommend replacing the fan clutch at the same time. Everything else about this water pump is good quality and easy to install.
