It works over a short distance, but in most cases the throughput is no higher than that of a standard 5 GHz WiFi.
I'm connecting from a short distance (-6 feet) at very high speed (3Gbps). But the permeability is not impressive. My 5g wifi had faster file transfer speeds. Also after a while this connection breaks and I have to reconnect. If the range were a bit better and you didn't have to be in sight with the WLAN device, that might be practical. This technology is not quite ready for prime time.
