Review on 🐠 Optimized Marineland Magniflow Canister Filter for Easy Aquarium Maintenance by Terra Strickland

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great filter if you have the right parts.

So I'm changing from a Fluval brand filter to Marineland. I have had Marineland filters for 15 years and they have always served me very well. I did a little research before taking it and for the price it was a no-brainer. Received it home, unpacked it had an o-ring with additional instructions which were good. Everything installed and ran fine EXCEPT I had air in the intake manifold. No problem, it's possible that the plastic tie wasn't tightened properly. Make sure the hose is installed correctly, position the clamp exactly as directed, fire again and air will still flow through the inlet hose. This naturally compresses the hose well enough to keep the air out. NO! As a test I submerged the entire inlet assembly and the top of the hose in water, the air delivery stopped so I knew 100% that the problem was in the hose/intake area as I suspected. Contacted support, asked for a photo. As soon as they replied they said that I installed the clamp correctly and to stop the leak I should go and buy a metal hose clamp from the hardware store. The problem is solved. The filter works great now. Hopefully in the future they will opt for stainless steel clamps instead of plastic clamps. Now the filter works perfectly, the tank is crystal clear. This canister filter is also very quiet compared to the Fluval I had. UPDATE 1/6/19. Filer still works great. No leakage, no noise. Holds up significantly better than the Fluval 206 I have on another tank that leaks EVERYWHERE.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Legacy model
