I recently got a lesson on the difference between CV sonar and CV transponder. This is a CV fish finder with a GT transponder making it extremely accurate. A few years ago, Garmin's competitors sued them, and Garmin was temporarily banned from using the technology. In the meantime, the CV transponder was used. These were two bars in which the middle information was filled in by the software. Not very accurate. Garmin won the lawsuit and we returned to GT technology. A few years ago there was a video online showing this error in a Garmin transponder, but after the lawsuit was won Gamin went back to their very accurate GT technology. Garmin is a leading manufacturer of aeronautical/GPS technology and has passed it on to its fish finders. Great little device and perfect for kayaking. Definitely recommend.
