nazi germany - my new review

I'm an adult and never read this book as a kid, but after moving to Germany I felt it was a good place to start. Actually, I would have expected this book to be even more emotional. It's too easy to think of children reading this book who don't really understand the horrors that happened. I'm glad I read it, but I definitely think it should be read, explained and evaluated more often in US schools. Because I didn't read it in school and I know it would have influenced me more when I was a kid who had to read it and take tests and find out those things were real. I think it would be a good idea to read this along with Anne Frank's diary, which I read at school. In the end I want the author to show a much darker side without any subtlety. On the other hand, Bruno was an ignorant and naive child who knew nothing until the end. But I want him to really know what happened and why to better understand his friend.

Pros
  • This is a MUST READ. Things should NEVER be forgotten. Thank you for this book.
Cons
  • Glorifies the story of the "innocent bystander".
