Surface to be painted is not 9"x12" -- it is 9"x11 1/2 ". Rings lined with wire that cannot be used for drawing. When you remove the paper from the backing you are left with wire holes. They need to be trimmed, holes cannot be painted over, so it will not be covered with a 9" x 12" painting mat.
