So I initially chose it for two HDMI ports as my laptop only has one and I need two monitors when sitting at my desk. But when it arrived and I looked at everything I had plugged in, I saw that everything plugged in except for the laptop's power cord (including a self-powered USB3 hub that supports multiple devices). So I tried it and it works great. Two HDMI monitors (actually TVs), KB, a mouse, a webcam, three external drives, a DVD player/recorder, a gamepad and I'm not sure what else. Everything works. Couldn't be happier. Well, I mean, I think it COULD be. :-)A NOTICE. The video will not play until the USB initialization is complete. This usually happens a few seconds after the login screen appears on the laptop's own screen. So don't worry, this is perfectly normal. The screens that cycle through this only start a little later. But it's confusing until you realize you're not expecting a video - that's almost immediately. You are waiting for USB, and here the delays are inherent. Especially if there are many devices on it. With all my crap, the delay is about 5 seconds. Luckily, I keep the laptop's lid closed so I'm less likely to notice the discrepancy. In any case, now that Mr. Laptop is about to hit the road there are only two things to turn off - the power supply and the hub/dock!
