1. I have read reviews on this waffle maker and it is apparent that many people who write reviews do not read the instructions. It's teflon coated and nothing will stick to it if you "bake it in" before first use - as you should with all teflon coated pans etc.2. You are buying a Teflon coated product so anything cooked in it will have the typical texture that Teflon provides. If you want a very sharp exterior texture, you'll have to spend a few hundred dollars on a cast iron block. The waffles have the typical texture that you would see on waffle makers at hotels that offer them the continental breakfasts that they have. The green light is not a timer. This is an indicator light that shows when the selected temperature has been reached. "You" have to decide how hot you want it and how long you want it to cook. As with any oven or hob, the indicator light will cycle on and off as the heating elements maintain the selected temperature.4. The lid is clearly meant to be lost, not because it's about to fall apart. Larger loops with a small shank through them allow the power cord to be routed into the top at little cost to the manufacturer. Wiggling the lid slightly will also allow the waffle mixture to even out if you've fluffed it up a bit - just shake the top to even it out. This allows the waffle to expand slightly as it rises during cooking. If you want the waffles to be a little thicker, don't press on the top. My appliance cooked evenly and browned more the longer I left it. Over time, it cooks no longer than a pancake. If it's cooking unevenly, make sure you're heating it long enough so that the heat is evenly distributed over the entire cooking surface. If necessary, let it warm up a little after the green indicator lights up.6. For $20 I got a device that heats up, doesn't stick, and looks like a waffle. Shouldn't he?
