True plug & play: clear, crisp monitor, thin bezel

In my time I bought dozens of flat panel displays and even more CRTs. I've used smart TVs and laptops, even old fashioned tube TVs (that's how old I am and how far I've come) with a TRS (Trash) 80, a TIME 2MB computer and a Commodore 64. I know a little about screens. This is a good screen. I wouldn't call it the holy grail of gaming, but Lenovo has created an extremely simple "instant on" monitor. You just plug it into your computer and the wall and turn it on. Fault. You have set everything. [Please see the photos accompanying this review.] The first few pictures show exactly what you get in the box. Standard protective case, but note that unlike other electronic devices, there is no clear protective film to remove. Why? I do not know. The screen and block are safe and sound, but the plastic wrap is nowhere to be found. This is my first Lenovo product, so maybe that's your thing. Notice how thin the bevel (edge) is. You could probably install them side by side and have less than 1/2 inch black bezel between the screens. My bank has screens like this behind the tills – that's cool. OK, to business. What you get is what you see. : You can use this with HDMI (I do) or a simple USB-C cable (included), or get yourself: an old-fashioned Super VGA cable, which means this monitor is backwards compatible. You can see that the connectors ( USB-C, SVGA, USB and HDMI are mounted vertically on the back, so your cables "hang around" when mounted in landscape orientation. This unit is wall mountable (VESA standard mount) designed, but comes with a stand so you can use it on your desk. It also has a charging port (USB) which I found interesting. You can charge your phone (etc) through the monitor, which frees up slots on your PC Just today I happened to be shipping some old monitors and couldn't find the right power cords for two of them, one HP and the other Samsung, both needed a special round plug which none of my dozens fit old power supplies fit moose looking for replacement adapters on eBay I like devices that use standard cables (e.g. PC power cords, USB, HDMI and DVGA) These things are interchangeable, and although now maybe it is doesn't seem important, think ahead after you've moved things and the cables are disconnected from their original equipment. This *always* happens and if you have electronics that require special cables (Apple if they're known for it), you're screwed. Lenovo obviously thought of that and made life easier. Setting up this thing is so easy it doesn't even require a manual, which is good since the "manual" you get is a fold-out booklet with lots of pictures and no words. Big. There may be full instructions online, but it just works right out of the box. By the way, the power indicator is white and amber when it's ready to sleep, just in case you were wondering. So, the screen: good? Absolutely. Most of today's mid-range HD monitors are of fairly standard quality. They all have little quirks that any superfan can talk about endlessly, but the bottom line is whether you can play on them or edit video or Photoshop/Lightroom on your monitor. This one stands up. I have mine in portrait mode for web development. You can do this with a VESA stand. The native color gamut is more than acceptable, but the orthodox and discerning can make adjustments via menu commands accessible via a button on the front panel (bottom right front in landscape mode). All in all, this is a very good monitor that won't break the bank. 27-inch widescreen HD screen that looks great on a Mac or Windows computer (probably Linux too, of course). You have to connect your speakers to a standard audio jack if you want the sound to pass through the monitor, but we all know those monitor speakers always suck, so I love that this monitor doesn't waste your time trying to pretending it has a great sound - it's all about the picture with that thing. Great second screen. Highly recommended. Thank you for reading; hope that helps.
