Review on ๐Ÿ”ง CDI Torque 401SM - Micro Adjustable Screwdriver, 5-40 Inch-Pound Torque Range, 1/4-Inch Size by Larry Gaines

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Production Torque Wrench (Updated)

2nd Update: 30th January 2013 2 out of 3 units purchased are working well so far. I tested 2 instruments in my calibration lab and none of the instruments had any problems. I also recently bought a 4th to replace the broken one. I raised the rating to 4 stars because I still think it's a good product. All my operators love this tool and now prefer it to their previous driver. Currently 3 drivers are only used by one or two operators so they are not used in the same way as the first one that failed. Update: 08/27/2012 Unfortunately I had to lower my rating from 5 to 3 stars. Good tool and my operators love it but if it only lasts 6 months its not worth it. I sent the first unit back to my calibration lab for a 6 month overhaul and the results were disappointing. You could not return the instrument to calibration mode. The lower limit has been offset slightly, about 1 inch below the set value. The cap was even worse, around 48 pounds when set at 40. I used this particular tool 24 hours a day on all my shifts to verify this exact issue. The service life may be slightly longer depending on usage. The highest torque we have is about 36 inches in pounds. After 3 months of use with the first item and my approval from the calibration lab, I have purchased two more which are currently in production. We've been using it for 2 months with no problems. Once they pass my sizing department for their 6 month overhaul I will update this review. (Original review March 2012) I bought this torque wrench to test with others before buying kits for all my operators. So far I have been very satisfied with the price, the service and the feedback from my employees. We use it with multiple torque settings from 10 to 36 in-lbs. My calibration lab was very happy with this instrument; Both the low and high levels differed by only 2%, which is very small compared to our other drivers. My experienced operators (who don't usually like change) were very happy with this design and the ease of setup. I'm currently testing it and using it in all our shifts to test its durability. After that I send it back for calibration and recheck the drift and show that there are no torque setting issues. If I encounter any problems I will update this review.
