Review on πŸš— Purolator Single Cabin Air Filter C36179 by Bryan Orozco

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Only 61% the filtering area of the Hyundai factory filter

I've always trusted Purolator products, especially Pure 1 oil filters, since a researcher cut oil into chunks years ago. Filters galore to see which ones have the best internal detail. Imagine my dismay to say the least as I just pulled out my original (Hyundai #F784EB9AA) cabin filter with the intention of replacing it with this C36179 CAF. The first thing I noticed was fewer wrinkles (or creases): 28 on the Purolator versus 45 on the Hyundai. I don't know the relative filtration efficiency of the two media, but I expect I'll feel more air through the purolator. So I'm wondering if the person who rejected the Bosch HEPA filter felt airflow after removing the Purolator filter and not the Hyundai filter. Maybe he'll see it and let me know. I really feel betrayed by the Purolator for not being able to provide Hyundai's filtration area and wonder if the Purolator I've known for so many decades isn't cutting corners now. If this filter is an example, I realize they are. I will now be suspicious of any Purolator filter so saving money on this filter could backfire. The filter fits perfectly into the room. I'm confused about the reduced filter range. I need to replace this filter 40% sooner than the factory filter with this filter area ratio, so I gave it one star and the same amount of air will flow through the filter 40% faster when the environment is the same as Hyundai, which means less effective filtration . This 28-pleat filter costs $12. For comparison, a Hyundai 45-pleat filter might cost around $17 and have the same relative cost. One thing is for sure, I will stop buying Purolator CAF filters and do a thorough research before buying other Purolator filters. I do not recommend this CAF.
