This product works very well with water and oil based paints but they crack immediately when used with alcohol based paints such as shellac. % ethanol, 5% water) on one of these pads and the fabric immediately separated from the foam core. The product states that it is suitable for all types of wood surfaces and specifically mentions shellac. It seems I was deceived. ======UPDATE======I have since tried pads again, this time with a water based wood stain. This worked very well for about 5-10 minutes, then the glue dissolved again and the seal fell apart. THIS PRODUCT IS GARBAGE. Either all the positive reviews are from hawkers or I got a bad batch.
