Review on Manfrotto Befree Live MVKBFRT-LIVEUS Twist Tripod with Video Head, Compact, Aluminium, Black by Robert Ryokan

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Solid mediocre tripod - don't believe the rave reviews on youtube and rave 5 star reviews

I'm a tripod fan - I have the original famous Gitzo G1228 Traveler carbon fiber with real Arca-Swiss head - - $1500+ today. Okay, it's unfair to compare a $1500 tripod/head to a $350 unit - yes. However, in reviews it is WRONG not to list EVERYTHING PLUS and AGAINST this device. Pros: 1. Very light weight - small enough to fit in most carry-on bags. 2. Comes with a decent carry bag. 3. Manufactured by Manfrotto (via China I suspect). 4. Leg twist locks work well and smoothly. 5. The built-in leveling base is good - the degree of correction is small, but pretty decent. 6. It works. most of time . but not great. 7. The build quality is decent. 8. I wish it was at least 6 inches taller for taller people. 9. There should be a hand weight hook at the bottom of the center column. 10. The rigidity of the carbon fiber legs is acceptable. Cons: 1. Liquid head is a complete joke. It's not smooth, and the tilt and pan lock levers are also resistance adjustments, meaning there's no resistance adjustment. It's not a crappy Velbon mechanism, but considering the $100 video head sold separately, I'd expect a lot more. After all, this is a V2 tripod/head version. 2. The video head has too much play. because of the plastic. A little more metal would have given the whole device more rigidity. 3. I want for Manfrotto to release convertible legs with rubber and studs. I'm sure it will only cost $1-2. Summary - let's give a letter rating: legs - C tripod collar - C video head - F design - B (foldable) Overall rating: C . or whatever else you would expect from a $350 tripod. But I expected more from Manfrotto's frankness with you.

Pros
  • Complete tripods
Cons
  • Something different
