Review on Delphi FG0053 Fuel Pump Module: Premium Quality for Efficient Fuel Delivery by Dhoal Black

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The pumps work great. The seal was too thick.

I have a Chevy Silverado 1500 1999 4WD 5.3L. The fuel pump failed last week and our mechanic charged $750 to replace it (+tax). So I decided to try it myself ($160) based on a YouTube video showing how it's "relatively easy" to tilt the back of a truck (to the side) so I can remove the gas tank no need to lower (a real problem if you don't have a lift and/or couples). You simply take 4 bolts from the truck body (tank/pump side - driver's side) and loosen the other 4 bolts (non-tank side - passenger's side) 1/2, remove the tailgate (for less weight) and twist and prop the bed up several places. A very good trick. In any case, everything was going great (including cutting off the old electrical connector and crimping the new electrical connector) until I attempted to remount/press the mounting plate with the new pump's round rubber gasket to the top of the gas tank. It just wouldn't close/adjust, even tapping (tapping) on the plate to get it spinning/adjusting with a blunt hit. After 1/2 hour of trying I finally gave up and put the old rubber seal (still in good condition) on the new pump. It sealed very well and held up after a few directional pushes/shocks. Large. The truck starts immediately and definitely has more power than before. Seems to be a great pump for this first week of use. In theory I could use a new gasket if I could push "hard" on the top of the gas tank. This is not possible if you are under a sloped truck bed. So maybe that's the downside of the truck tilt method. But the pump seems to work great and the old stuffing box worked. I hope this tip helps you!
