You will get plastic in your food.

Yes I think that is the most important thing in this review. It doesn't matter for softer foods, but you don't just get a mandolin for soft foods, you get things that require effort. While slicing the olives went well, my seitan had plastic in it the entire time - those are the little white bits in these photos. That's no coincidence either. I was hoping as I really like this thing but I replaced the first one and found the same issue with the second one. Multiple uses for both and the more I used it the worse it got so it wasn't just factory junk. Aside from being dull, it hurts to clean and food gets stuck at the top and bottom instead of reaching the end. Outside. It cleans well enough thanks to the included brush/selector, but there's no way to take it apart or get a good deep clean, just a superficial job. Not a fan of that. And, you know, plastic in food. I'm not a fan of it either. It cuts fairly well, but not perfectly, as tough foods require extra work and don't always cut evenly. Because of the angle of the funnel, you'll end up with an odd angle when slicing, which will inevitably result in multiple small, thick slices and likely tear up more chewy things (like hot pepper sticks). They will most likely get stuck at the top or bottom and can be ejected with a few clicks, or they may need to be removed later during cleaning. It's also fantastic at shredding its own plastic. Really nice clean cuts that fall straight into the tray with your food unlike other foods you cut. Too bad it's really good for things that require a bit more work and the design is really quite safe for cutting. . However, I have to disregard some safety concerns as raised blades are difficult to clean, you really have to get inside and you can easily cut yourself in the process. Oh, and the part where he drops pieces of plastic in your food is probably unsafe too. I was lucky I was only heating seitan to about 200 degrees in the dash fryer when I realized it. Again, who knows how much was in the pizza I cooked at 550 before I saw the problem, huh?
