These trays appear to be of good quality. I use them to hard freeze soup, broth, etc. first to get a hard block that can be moved to a freezer storage bag. The product is well designed for this. I place the trays in the freezer for 24 hours, then press the bottom of the section to extract the perfect rectangle of frozen soup. As others have pointed out, I don't think the included lid provides an airtight seal for long term freezer storage. There is a loose order of what you put in the trays after washing. However, this also applies to other silicone products, such as the multi-cooker silicone seal. It's not a strong smell, you have to put your nose right up to the tray to notice a lingering smell. The bowls wash well and I don't feel that a slight odor affects the usability of the products.
