I used this stand to put up a guest book sign at my wedding, it worked well for this display purpose. The stand is generally strong and can support the weight of a large wooden sign. However, for painting, this stand is not so good for soft canvases (wooden frame, but open back) when the canvas is slightly higher than the back of the stand - the back of the stand rests on the soft fabric of the painting. surface, since its height is not adjustable at all. I wish this stand had an adjustable back/handle like the others so you can paint with it on a larger canvas. However, this stand works well with hard-backed canvases (thinner and without a wooden frame). It worked fine for my use of this item as a sign holder; However I would not recommend this to anyone who wants to use it for painting as there are others with an adjustable back to accommodate and more securely support different size canvases.
