This rug is very attractive and my cat loves it. She stretches and scratches it daily, and so far her seizures are unmanifest. I washed it before use and it came out of the washing machine like new. Then why three stars? Well three stars for the looks as it looks exactly like the photo and is appealing. Two stars deducted for the back. The description says the rug has a non-slip backing and the rug has a backing but it only holds the fabric together. Otherwise it wouldn't stay put. However, the pad is NOT non-slip. Mine sits in front of the kitchen sink to catch the occasional drip of water. Because I cook, I walk on or around the rug many times a day. Even if I don't wear open-toed shoes, I have to be very careful because I easily catch my foot on the edge of the mat and the edge bends on me. This can lead to a fall, especially if a person is walking across the kitchen from the stove with a hot pot and cannot look down. I intend to keep using it until it needs a wash and hope for the best. Then I drop it or give it to the cat in its hiding place as it's not worth risking a fall. My last rug held firmly to the floor when I walked on it, so I'll just buy another one like it and hope they don't go down in quality! Otherwise I like the rug and wish the underlay would work better.
