Defective batch?: my evaluation

As much as I love this screen, it appears that in late 2021 the batch shipped from the factory is defective. I don't know what HDR is. The point of HDR is to provide HIGH dynamic range - how do you expect this to happen when you increase the initial brightness? no With the default settings, HDR looks good. Dark areas are dark. Bright areas make you look away - that's the point of HDR. This screen does. The problem is that the monitor also toggles HDR on and off while gaming. In this case, Asus support has so far spoken of a manufacturer error. Second, the first monitor ordered lasted less than 24 hours before completely dying. no OSD. Or even a photo. On everything. As for the rest. The version here is **not** adjustable for height and rotation (R is not part of the product name on this version). The product description here on Revain is a bit misleading. The screen has issues with USB ports, which are required for Aura Sync to work but are almost never listed as a requirement. Custom mode, racing mode, FPS mode, etc. all offer decent lighting/brightness. Corresponds to other old screens. SRGB mode has some issues (on both screens I have). I think the calibration/color profile provided by the support site is mainly to blame. The screens have a very noticeable halo when it's over black: it radiates inward from the corners of the panel. It's not noticeable when playing - it's noticeable when designing, but it's a game screen, not a design screen. (You could argue that at $700 it shouldn't be. You'd probably be right.) All in all, if the quality of the product wasn't so inconsistent and purely random, then this could be a worthwhile buy. From the end of 2021, although I need a 3-piece set, I will be switching to another model (there aren't many in 27"/144Hz).
