This pepper mill looks beautiful, works very well and produces 6 different finenesses with ease. Unscrewing the lid is easy, so refilling is easy (my old pepper mill needed pliers to remove the top handle). However, I have found that the polish cracks easily at the base, the part you turn to adjust the grind size. When I first received it, it had a cracked coffee grinder. I sent this one back and got another one in perfect condition. However, after about 4 months of normal use (with only about 5 changes of grinding strength) a crack in the coating developed here too. As far as I can tell this crack is only in the red finish, not the wood, but I'm concerned that over time it will chip and look bad. If I could I would give it a 3.5 as it works so beautifully.
