thankfully it's an inexpensive replacement for the now dead OEM remote that came with my Roku Ultra (and spending $30 on an OEM replacement is it just not worth it for a streaming device that can't control basic browser connection). The remote has 3 zones: top navigation zone with OK button, Exit/Back button, Roku Home button, Roku Settings button, 4 navigation arrows, Play/Forward/Back. They're arranged in concentric rings, with OK in the middle, directions in a narrow ring around it, and then a ring of other buttons with Backward next to the left arrow, Play next to the down arrow, and Forward next to the right arrow. . There is practically no physical difference between each of them and the adjacent arrow. The placement is completely illogical as the play button makes more sense when the front and back are adjacent to the left and right edges. The Exit/Back button is located in the top right corner of the outermost ring. The layout is terrible and instead of just knowing where the buttons are, you have to constantly look at the remote to find the right buttons, while most quality remotes can be used with muscle memory and touch. The middle zone controls the volume of the TV as well as the channels. My TV I use Roku with is a Westinghouse (which is advertised as compatible but just doesn't show up in the TV code listing, leading to a fairly lengthy trial and error process to find a working code ). Then there's the numeric keypad, where each number is assigned a channel (at least half of those aren't even Roku options); therefore each is assigned a number and 2 channels. On my Roku, only the channel assignment counts; no instructions on how to access the second assigned channel and no number assignments on Roku. The remote is illogically too busy, making it difficult to use. Doesn't have certain OEM remote features that I've never used with an OEM: hearing audio on the remote instead of the TV or connected soundbar or devices, voice commands for the Roku box through the remote; Link a remote to Roku to search for a remote (this remote will not appear in the list of devices on Roku). Happy to lose all of these features for about 1/3 the price of a replacement remote, which itself is about 1/3 the cost of a new remote-equipped Roku. If I liked my Roku I would probably go for the more expensive OEM remote due to the design. But as a streaming device, it leaves a lot to be desired, and I don't need Roku or anyone else to try to collect (control, track, and sell) my usage information. That crappy remote is enough to keep the Roku alive until I replace it with a more efficient streamer. Summary: Poorly designed and constructed, cheap plastic with no useful warranty if it lasts 31 days and closing the Revain return window, with unclear or inaccurate instructions for use. Spoilers: Made in China!
