Review on Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED: Wide Angle Lens for Stunning Photography by Jongkol Amphaiphit ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm amazed! It was definitely worth the money!

It would be a sin to buy such a magnificent width and not be able to put landscape filters on it. Kudos to Lee for coming up with the SW-150 mount, which is designed specifically for this lens. But then, alas, again about the minuses. Of course, about the price of such a holder complete with filters 150x170 mm. it’s even scary to write (at online auctions, however, there are also non-original adapters, search for "lee holder nikon 14-24" or "lee sw 150") Of course, the choice of filters of this size in 2022 is rather scarce, if not completely absent. Of course, there is no polarizer of this size. And of course, this is all - not protective filters, it is convenient to use them, perhaps, only when shooting from a tripod. However, it would be unfair not to mention the very possibility of a partial way out of the situation. But after all, such lenses are not bought for that, in order to wind up a UV filter and go to beat all the corners with it, right? For serious thoughtful work, all the necessary set of filters is there, including neutral gray and tint. Well, for those who shoot a report and do not hope for their accuracy, there is 17-35 f / 2.8;)

Pros
  • Much has already been said about the lens. It is really unique in many respects: both in resolution, and in moderate distortion (this is with such and such focal lengths!), And in drawing, and in design, and in focusing - and all this is very well balanced. Yes, there are analogues with a thread for a filter, but they are worse either in resolution, or in terms of coverage, or aperture is lower, or something else is lame. There is simply nothing completely similar in this range of focal points in terms of the combination of advantages.
Cons
  • The main drawback has also been said more than once: the inability to put a conventional filter. BUT! The good news is that the problem, although expensive, can be solved. How - see below.
