Product Overview

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED is a high-quality lens designed for professional photographers and enthusiasts who seek exceptional image quality and versatility. With a focal length range of 14-24 millimeters, this lens offers a wide-angle perspective, making it ideal for landscape, architecture, and interior photography. It boasts a minimum focus distance of 0.9 feet (0.28 meters) and a minimum f/stop of 22, allowing for close-up shots with great detail. The lens construction of 14 elements in 11 groups, including 2 ED glass elements, 3 aspherical lenses, and 1 Nano Crystal Coat, ensures sharpness, minimized aberrations, and reduced flare and ghosting. With an angle of view ranging from 114° to 84°, the lens provides a broad visual field, capturing expansive scenes with stunning clarity.

Key Characteristics

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED stands out due to several important characteristics. Firstly, its wide focal length range allows photographers to explore creative perspectives and capture dramatic shots. The lens' construction with ED glass elements and aspherical lenses contributes to outstanding image quality, minimizing distortions and aberrations. The Nano Crystal Coat further enhances image clarity by reducing ghosting and flare caused by stray light. Additionally, the minimum focus distance of 0.9 feet makes it possible to capture intricate details even at close range. Lastly, the lens' maximum aperture of f/2.8 enables low-light shooting and facilitates shallow depth-of-field effects, providing greater control over the composition.

Comparable Products

While the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED is a remarkable lens, there are alternative options worth considering. One such lens is the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM, which offers a similar focal length range and aperture. Both lenses are renowned for their excellent optical performance and are widely used by professional photographers. Another alternative is the Sony FE 12-24mm f/2.8 G Master lens, designed specifically for Sony's full-frame mirrorless cameras. This lens provides a slightly wider focal length range and maintains a fast maximum aperture of f/2.8, catering to the needs of landscape and architectural photographers. Everything about the purchase suits me, a very necessary product.

I bought a lens a year ago for shooting in the wild. The lens turned out great! High in the mountains, wind, rain, frost - everything is not how much! Ocean, sand - here I definitely believed that it is protected from dust and moisture. After shooting on the beach in the wind, I didn’t even have to take it in for cleaning! Wow! South America, jungle - no problem! A separate word needs to be said about aperture ratio and color reproduction! With this lens, I realized that I no longer need photo…

    Pros
    • Small hyperfocal distance, can be used for video. Ringing sharpness. An interesting effect when shooting some scenes. Exceptional build quality and photographic material. Precise and fast focusing.
    Cons
    • They are not here!

I am delighted, the product is really worthy.

Its pros: The legend of the Nikon company, excellent aperture, sharp throughout the frame already from 2.8, which is very important for night shooting, Has cons: convex lens, do not install filters (I had to buy a separate system with filters)

Excellent quality, absolutely not expected for such a price.

16 and 17mm are enough for most photographers), I use it on the D700 Ru/users/evgentus/tags/nikon%2022-24mm%20f%202.8g%20ed%20af-s%20nikkor/

    Pros
    • Cool picture Good sharpness right from F2.8.
    Cons
    • - At 14mm there is a slight distortion, But there are no light and cheap "golden rings" for a full frame.

It was a reasonable purchase, I will order more.

I shoot country and city landscapes, installed on Nikon D600 the main disadvantage is the lack of installation of filters, this bulb catches all the glare and overexposure, : in terms of coverage at the highest sharpness, this is a winner landscape painter, and weight, the perfect shot is obtained only with a strictly horizontal (or vertical, whatever) aiming, any deviations - and you will correct a variety of distortions up to a sweat A couple of examples here: The differences in…

    Pros
    • High sharpness, fast focus
    Cons
    • The inability to set filters, when shooting with distortions, geometric distortions go off scale so that no software can correct the picture

Here is an example: Polarik plus nozzle at the rate at the end of December 2022 about 17000-20220 filter and its corresponding adapter, the shades of the color depth of the same sky can change from edge to edge of the frame, this is very noticeable here (although a different lens, but the main thing is a wide angle) - page=0.

    Pros
    • Perfectly balanced, you almost don’ Haven' but there are also disadvantages from it)
    Cons
    • but this lack of dignity is that it is very sharp in the center,

Great product, a pleasure to use.

Sharpness - 10 Detail - 10 Autofocus Accuracy - 9 Autofocus time from full turbidity to a point - 0.6 sec Constructive - 8 The price / quality ratio fully justifies! Its pros: Excellent autofocus performance, despite the fact that it is not really needed here. Sharpness 5+. Perfectly shows itself in staged portrait photography in nature. Best of all for landscapes, f11-16 has the perfect sharpness/detail ratio. By the way, the detail is amazing! On crop, it gives 21-36, which allows it to…

I'm amazed! It was definitely worth the money!

It would be a sin to buy such a magnificent width and not be able to put landscape filters on it. Kudos to Lee for coming up with the SW-150 mount, which is designed specifically for this lens. But then, alas, again about the minuses. Of course, about the price of such a holder complete with filters 150x170 mm. it’s even scary to write (at online auctions, however, there are also non-original adapters, search for "lee holder nikon 14-24" or "lee sw 150") Of course, the choice of filters of…

    Pros
    • Much has already been said about the lens. It is really unique in many respects: both in resolution, and in moderate distortion (this is with such and such focal lengths!), And in drawing, and in design, and in focusing - and all this is very well balanced. Yes, there are analogues with a thread for a filter, but they are worse either in resolution, or in terms of coverage, or aperture is lower, or something else is lame. There is simply nothing completely similar in this range of focal points in terms of the combination of advantages.
    Cons
    • The main drawback has also been said more than once: the inability to put a conventional filter. BUT! The good news is that the problem, although expensive, can be solved. How - see below.

The best purchase in my life, I will definitely buy it again.

For a long time I shoveled the net when looking for a wide-angle for 800ki. I decided to take a chance and take the top right away. Before that lens, there was no such range of focal lengths. Impressions from the purchase itself are the most rosy. The lens seems to pick up color. The saturation is freaky, sometimes it even needs to be adjusted to a minus. Sharpness is excellent throughout the entire range of FR and apertures, only the very very periphery suffers. This effect is enhanced by the…

    Pros
    • Wonderful colors, crazy sharpness, solid construction
    Cons
    • I note only the bulky cover

    Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great quality, happy with it one hundred percent!

The golden ring is 100% justified. I use it with the D700 and I can say that on FR 14 it’s almost fisheye - tilt a little from the horizon and creative distortions already appear in the viewfinder. 114 degree view. I was finally able to photograph my entire room. Weight is normal, 70-200 is much heavier! The convex lens is a little annoying, but firstly, the edges of the hood protrude beyond the lens, thereby protecting the glass, and secondly, a cover is put on the lens, a kind of cap)))…

    Pros
    • Silent and precise focusing. Excellent color rendering. Sharpness on all FR. Constructive.
    Cons
    • Convex lens.

The perfect purchase for me, exactly what I was looking for!

As already mentioned in other reviews in the 2022, the problem is to find a protective filter. In fact, it’s not even a filter, but a whole system. I found such a fotodiax system. such a lens 810 carcass. in general, I assembled this whole structure . and decided that I need to buy another carcass. maybe 810 with a battery pack at least. in general, I don’t recommend owners of 610 and df. the view is not so hot)))))))

    Pros
    • Thing! Japanese assembly! heavy. solid.
    Cons
    • I don’t know if it can be called a disadvantage, but Nikon could take care of protecting the convex front lens. I had to look for third-party manufacturers.

    Revainrating 5 out of 5

I do not cease to rejoice at the purchase, a very good deal!

The lens impresses not only with its size and weight, but also with comparable consumer qualities. An uncompromising wide angle, instant focus and high aperture are so well merged in this product that the lens simply cannot be compared. No discrete lens is able to fully combine this with the same unparalleled image quality as the Nikon. This is a true "discrete killer"!

    Pros
    • Reference image quality in all conditions, including the strongest backlight. Really wide angle! Sharpness from edge to edge is the true truth, not a proclamation!
    Cons
    • There is no thread for installing filters.

    Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good balance of price/quality, recommend it.

My impressions of comparing width models, including this wonderful Nikor, I outlined here: http://color-foto. Com/test-shirokougolnih-obektivov-sony_-konica-minolta_-canon_-nikon-nikkor-v-kontrovom- svete-na-bliki/ Professional photographers will be interested in this, but others, I'm afraid, will not understand. But working against the light is a damn important option for interior and landscape photographers.

    Pros
    • I like its design, I like the wide angle, good sharpness.
    Cons
    • The cost of this lens inspires great hopes for protection against stray light. Comparing this lens to other super wide lenses, I would give it a solid 4 for backlighting. But not 5.

    Revainrating 5 out of 5

I am amazed! It was definitely worth the money!

Incredible width. For about a year I have been shooting on this glass and only positive emotions. When shooting a report from the inside, this glass does not remind of itself at all, you just put it on and take it off. There was a case when I dropped it from one and a half meters onto a stone floor (my heart sank)) as a result, only the fixation ring inside burst, and it remained fully operational until the end of the shooting. The service repaired everything in 2-3 days.

    Pros
    • Sturdy and quality made. Convenient for focal lengths. Quick
    Cons
    • heavy, dangerous convex lens

    Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good product for me, no problems at all.

An excellent lens, especially for a full frame. Stunning sharpness across the entire field of the frame already starting at aperture 2.8. Very good for shooting landscapes, interiors. Due to the design features (a huge convex front lens), it is impossible to attach a light filter to it. It is somehow scary for such an expensive lens when it is without a protective filter. Yes, and a polarizer is sometimes necessary.

    Pros
    • Superb image quality across all zoom ranges and apertures. Aperture. Dust and moisture protection.
    Cons
    • There is no possibility of using filters.

    Revainrating 5 out of 5

    Great product, best quality.

He really is the best. On the FX, of course, the angle is large (almost a fisheye), but if you have a DX camera format, it will give panoramic photos a fantastic look at 14mm (not so strong girth angle and at the same time a great wide format). Weight for me personally stabilizes the vibrations of the hand in many ways. There are no filters - you can’t walk openly with the lens, so the hood should be removed only when shooting.

    Pros
    • Truly the best, professional wide-format lens. Analogues are far behind. Excellent color reproduction, large aperture and no distortion at the edges.
    Cons
    • This lens is very heavy. There is no possibility of planting filters.
