The damper works well and has survived several rides.

. The original AD12 shock finally got to the stage where I was considering replacing it. I've rebuilt the AD12 a few times and was looking for another that is exactly like this. After much internet searching for a suitable replacement, I settled on a DNM shock with 216mm eye mounts. The distance between the eyes of the Sugar 2+ was 205mm as far as I could measure. A direct replacement could not be found. The consequence of using 216mm instead of 205mm was the loss of 11mm of travel. That's not a big problem for me because I don't need 50+mm of travel with this shock. Feet air on some sections of descent each time. I weigh about 220 pounds so the shock got a pretty good workout. Locking with the shock on isn't a complete lock, but it's close enough. I specifically avoided the remote lockout because I didn't want to mess with a different lever and cable. The blocking works very well. I've always been skeptical about how much power is really wasted on climbs with AD12 (no lockup). I am convinced that DNM with lockout is definitely better. It's almost like riding a hardtail uphill. The descents are really smooth when the lockout is released by simply squeezing a lever on the shock. The mount required a small adjustment. Mounted sugar - M6. DNM is mounted with M8. I drilled mounting holes on the bike to fit the M8 bolts I bought from the hardware store. I used wheel bolts that went through both bike mounting holes so that the bushing on the shock had a smooth hinge surface. I used regular split lock washers. The DNM equipment required only minor modifications. The shortest mounting sleeves that came with the shock were about 1/8" longer. I filed them to fit; it only took a few minutes. I'm very happy with the purchase. I'm back on my bike and the rear suspension works better than new.
