Famous brand and product but difficult to use for long haired dogs

If you are looking for this type of spiked collar then Herm Sprenger is the best brand for it. The teeth feel like high quality metal, smooth and polished. Size is very important. You want spiked collars to sit very high on the neck behind their skull, and you want the collar to be snug (NOT loose) so it doesn't slip off. You should not be able to put the collar on the dog's head. But there is no "easy" way to open and close the collar. To open it, you have to squeeze a pin fairly hard to separate it from the others, which can be difficult for many people. I have a golden retriever with a thick hackle. Putting the collar on and taking it off was very cumbersome. Sometimes it took me 5 minutes to turn it on. Due to the martingale style chain there are no prongs on the back of the neck and if I wanted to center the collar properly I would have to try to close it to the side of my dog's head or under her neck which was very hard with all the hair I also had to make his collar looser than it should be because I couldn't get the collar on properly because of my dog's hair. Eventually I stopped using this collar because it was very uncomfortable for my dog. I ended up switching to the Keeper Collar, a hybrid collar and martingale collar with a standard buckle that is much easier to open and close. However, Herm Sprenger pins are definitely of a much better quality than Keeper Collar pins.
