Big difference in glass transition temperature! Start with immaculate windows!

In the three photos attached, one of the four windows is still open so you can see the difference in reflection. Also note that in the photo taken from the room, the sky and trees have much more pleasant tones and contrasts through the film than without it. I choose exterior film because the previous owner had already installed interior film along with sunscreen on exterior windows that have seen better days. I love having clean windows, and removing, washing, and replacing (ugly) sunscreen after every dust storm is ridiculous. I was impressed by the difference in window glass temperatures once the film was in place. With double glazed windows it seemed like the inner film was still building up a lot of heat between the two panes of glass. I practiced my furnishing technique on the south-facing windows before moving on to these four, which are clearly visible from the main trellis and backyard pool. So here are my installation tips. 1) I found the included scraper and knife very useful. Didn't use scissors, just a large piece of cardboard, a ruler (frame height) and a knife. 2) CLEAN WINDOWS! Use plenty of soapy water, a razor blade, and a mop to shower or clean windows. I thought my window was clean, and then when the movie came on I realized I had some kind of dirt (thank god I practiced on the side windows that no one sees). I made a double razor blade for the next one, pressing twice and being careful not to let the paper towel touch the glass while I finished the edges. There were still a few tiny dots between the foil and the window. Grrr, then I tried a clay block (for cars) - it left a film of grout which I had to scrape off - so that didn't help. I still have a scraper in case the rubber crumbles. Again, it looked clean, felt clean, and was slightly soiled when the film was shot. I ended up guessing my bottle of soapy water was the culprit - those windows all looked perfect until I wet them well to apply the film. I poured out the soapy water and started another - BINGO! The pollution is gone. Thank God! I ran out the side windows to practice! "Even with a little soapy soil, I found the benefits of this film so good that I would be doing west-facing windows anyway. If you don't look closely, you won't notice them. 3) Apply and cut the foil. As others have said, wind equals day. Use plenty of (fresh, clean) soapy water (especially if installed in Arizona where the temperature in the morning shade is 90 degrees). Swipe the edge of the window to trim it - I have my best edge lines. 4) Installation of the film. I used a large shower scraper first, then went all over the center with the hard scraper, edge-to-edge (paper towel wrapping helps soak up the glue, which will crush the edges and keep the foil clean). The windows looked great the first time, and even better after a day or two in the sun!
