Review on SilverStone ML02B MXR Aluminum Steel Center: The Ultimate Media Center Solution by Doug Ellingson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The Retro Milo Case will still be a good HTPC in 2020!

I didn't buy this from Revain, I got it from Newegg and paid way more than stealing the deal offered here. However, this retro Silverstone case caught my attention and I set out to rebuild it into a modern HTPC. So I had to switch from the flimsy 120W PSU to a PICO PSU, I got the 500W version but I only did that to meet the GIGABYTE B350 D3H motherboard spec. I chose and paired an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G, 16GB DDR4 RAM and 2TB NVMe for boot/storage. I also added a Slim Blu-Ray drive that I found cheap on ebay and an old Pinnacle PCTV HD TV tuner. Card which I rejected because it was an old PCI but for this particular motherboard it works fine. This PC case contains an IMON LCD built into the case, which comes with a media center like a remote control. Surprisingly, although deprecated from the IMON software, it still works in 2020 with a few minor quirks. It automatically pulls in RSS data and news scrolling information in addition to hardware information and other media center features including an equalizer. IMON HD is an included media center application that works with IMON and can be easily configured to work with specific applications. All in all, it's not a bad option if you plan to build a fancy HTPC. Revain's price tag indicates that the last item in stock is a bargain. As you can see from the photos I put sticky pads on the bottom of the case to allow it to stand higher. I did this because I needed to cut out the bottom of the case for the PICO power supply so I installed it where the DC adapter plug would go.
