60 miles from the city and connected to major networks!

I live about 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. Not in a valley, but not on a hill either, but surrounded by tall pine trees. I was ready to give up Direct TV because we never watched it and were tired of paying for it. However, I wanted to skip the local news, so I did a lot of antenna research. At first I thought it was hopeless for us because we live so far away from the city. I've spoken to several people in my area who have tried unsuccessfully to use the antenna. I returned a few before trying the ClearStream 4V. This time, however, I connected my antenna to an amplifier. Now I'm not sure if it really mattered but I finally got some channels so I didn't want to mess around with it anymore! I get 16 digital channels, which I know isn't much compared to what most people can receive, but given that I live in the middle of nowhere (we don't even have cell service at home). ), I'm happy. I connected CBS and PBS with no problems, but I had to make some adjustments to finally get FOX and NBC. At first I lost hope of getting FOX and NBC, but then my husband took a longer pole and attached an antenna to it. He also removed a few bits from our Direct TV satellite, which is now junk, to make it a little easier to tilt and pan that antenna. After lifting it a few more feet and tilting it backwards a bit, FOX did a great job! It's mounted on the roof of our ranch house and the extra pole is probably about 4 feet tall. If you don't get much at first - adjust! Like I said I lost hope on FOX and NBC but half a day of mods and lots of flipping and channel scanning and now we definitely find them! I use an amplifier and don't split the cable at all. I tried using the previously wired Direct TVs but they were separated in the basement from where they were then connected to three different TVs. So I ran my own wiring instead, but it wasn't difficult as Direct TV already had the right holes in the right places. We also used the Antenna Direct app to figure out where to point the antenna, but to be honest I don't think it helped much. For our final setup, we turned it off and set the direction we knew the city was in and included any networks we needed.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Fits
