Review on Counter Assault Bear Container Cubic by Nicholas Erickson

We did a small section of the Appalachian Trail that required a bear canister so we have this just right for the purpose. PROS: 1. It was nice not hanging our food in the allowed sections every night. 2. I felt a lot more comfortable knowing our belongings were safe from rodents and other critters. 3. The bright yellow color is easy to spot when you're ready to try. 4. Spacious. We were able (with some effort) to accommodate just over 4 days of food for two. CONS: 1. It's heavy. For us as a couple it wasn't that important as one person could carry the food and the other the accommodation/bedding. Sharing the load made things easier, but I couldn't imagine carrying that if I was alone. 2. The lid had to be put on properly or it wouldn't close properly. Several times I installed two locks only to find it wasn't quite right and the third wouldn't lock. I had to unlock and start over. No big deal, just pain. 3. Some other canisters I've seen are clear. This one requires digging to see what's there. Again, no deal breaker, just a toss! Overall I would recommend. Increasingly, it's possible to carry canisters to places where they're not needed, and I think that's a good choice.
