Review on ๐Ÿฒ Convenient Pyrex Easy Grab 2-Quart Glass Casserole Dish with Glass Lid by Mysocalled Gaultier

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Pyrex was converted to softened soda lime in the US, but still borosilicate for ROW.

It makes me sad to write this. We collect kitchenware, storage glass and bakeware for a while before the brand can go abroad like many American products. I grew up with Pyrex products. It has earned our trust. I read some scary reviews before placing this order but I didn't think Pyrex glassware COULD explode. I've used Pyrex test tubes, beakers, and flasks with high heat work with no problem. This pan arrived with numerous heat loads, likely due to a faulty annealing process. To make matters worse, where the handle connects to the pot is a bubble - a time bomb designed to detonate in the oven. I have no idea how this glassware passed Pyrex quality control. Bubbles can form in the drinking glass. It's hard to find even in a drinking glass these days. As usual, Revain CS took care of it and got my money back. The frustrating irony is that Pyrex was introduced by the Americans (Corning/Pyrex) and has now become softened soda lime in the US, but the rest of the world still uses Pyrex in the borosilicate version. So if you need a good pyrex, wait for it to be shipped from other countries. The problem wasn't the $10, it was the declining quality of American Pyrex. I don't have the heart to give Pyrex 1 star because it still has the "Made in USA" stamp on it. For Pyrex lovers there is a very helpful Revain review here "http://smile.amazon.com/review/RDOGNUE1CZFYF/ref=cm_cr_dp_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B004Q290ZE&nodeID=284507&store=kitchen#wasThisHelpful". You can still collect borosilicate baking utensils: e.g. Anchor Hocking, Arcuisine (European Pyrex license), Simax (known in Czech for over 200 years); they are also more expensive than pyrex!

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • poorly thought out
