Plugging this directly into my Pi's USB port works great. My problem is that I have a lot of things plugged in, so I wanted the mic and speaker to be plugged into the hub, but none of them work from the hub. So in the base I have a mouse button, a keyboard button, a couple of flash drives, but both flash drives don't go directly to the Pi at the same time, so the hub. And actually I bought this for my Pi Zero, which is not the case. I don't have standard USB ports and have to use a hub if you need to connect more than one device, and I have at least one microphone and one speaker. small mic for the money unless you're using it from a hub, at least on the Pi.
