Review on Handcrafted White Matte Speckled Stoneware Dipping Bowl Set From Roro by Keegan Herbert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Beautiful but got gray marks fast

I love the look of these, and bought one set as a gift and two sets for myself later. They have been used almost exclusively as salad bowls, maybe once or twice a week, over the past nine months. The first time they were used one was very marked up by the silverware, and now all of them are. And now the glaze is cracking a little with dark veining along the side of one of them. I'm going to try some baking soda, but I have cheaper white plates and bowls that are unmarked despite years of daily use. So these will likely end up being used as bread baskets from now on. On the plus side, they're heavy and solid and beautiful, and haven't chipped.Edit: I scrubbed them with some cream of tartar (bon ami on the worst one) and the gray marks all came out (and even after drying haven't reappeared so it's not a crazing issue). One still has what's either a deeper scratch or a hairline crack on the side. So I'm revising my review because I really love these bowls, and I don't mind a little maintenance!

Pros
  • Loved these
Cons
  • The dipping bowls may not be sold separately, making it difficult for a buyer to replace a lost or broken bowl
