BEST lens for budget photographers

*Used on a Canon M50. Last year I started videography to bring my YouTube channel to life. My lenses included a 15-45mm kit lens, a 55-200mm zoom lens and a 22mm prime lens. Oh, and the 18-55mm EFM kit lens. I think for some reason I have it. I've always been curious about the bokeh you can achieve with one of these budget prime lenses. Sure, the EFM 22mm lens gives a nice soft background, but that's F2. I had to go deep. I saw an aperture on that lens and an eyebrow slowly raised. I saw a good star rating and another eyebrow went up a little quicker. I saw the price and slumped onto the back of my chair. .After successfully recreating the classic Vince McMahon parody, I immediately bought this lens. Well, I personally will never use this lens for videography as the lack of autofocus would make it almost impossible to comfortably shoot the talking head style videos my channel is known for. But for photos? I have no reason to choose my $200 22mm EFM instead. The sharpness is top notch, the bokeh is SO soft and the low light performance is amazing. TL;DR They don't have autofocus and the focus point of the lens is so narrow (a side effect of a lens with such a small aperture) that it's not recommended for shooting video or action photography. At least not for a layman like me. However, this lens is perfect for the person who does everyday photography on a smaller budget. I would never take another lens out of my bag unless it was for video.

Pros
  • F1.2, bright, large aperture
Cons
  • So far, so good
