Doesn't work when spare rope is taut

I tried it once and now it's useless. The instructions require you to crank the spare tire and tighten the jack until you hear two "clicks". I never experienced the two "clicks" when the very soft metal used for the extension buckled outward and the extension began to rotate on the hoist connector without ending cable tension. Once this happened, the tool was no longer plugged into the hoist connector at all (neither to wind/tighten the cable nor to unwind/unwind the cable), now it just rotated. Luckily, this all happened in my driveway during my annual spare tire and rim lift service. If this happened en route when trying to change a real flat I'd be stuck (to be honest it would "most of the time" work in a cycle of using the replacement/removal of the spare as it doesn't bends/didn't work until the replacement part was reinstalled on the cable and I tried to re-tighten it.I say "mostly works" because the failure left me with a replacement part that was there but not properly tightened to the frame ). I bought this tool because of the price (it's less than 50% the cost of a GM OEM tool kit) so it really is a 'you get what you pay for'.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • weak
