I decided to try this product after 2 BGE electric starters failed. I use my BGE 3-5 times a week for dinners and BBQs at pool parties. Lighting lumpy charcoal can be a problem as you NEVER use lighter fluid in a BGE. After 2 months of use, meticulously following the instructions and watching some YouTube videos, I'm not thrilled. First you have to plug the BGE into the right outlet because the cord isn't that long, and then the frustration sets in when you realize that this device requires you to hold down the power button, which takes about 7-10 minutes. to get the right fire in your EGG. The real problem with using this device is the sparks that will start flying from your lump of charcoal as it starts to reach combustion temperature. You won't want to wear anything that you don't mind burning holes in, and glasses are recommended. This is very annoying when "heating up" the grill. I've tried all kinds of quick charcoal igniters to speed up ignition. They help, but you'll stand there like in the Matrix, dodging sparks and trying to start a fire in your firebox while all your friends laugh at you. To be honest, a real Flaming Torch is the best way to go. Yes, it takes propane and common sense, but it's a lot faster and more reliable. I've had several delays in eating for a considerable amount of time as it takes a long time with this "hair dryer". Keep it on hand as a backup in case I run out of propane. If you're looking for a quick way to light charcoal, this isn't it.
