I love this thing. It doesn't need WiFi to work. This is a complete fallacy. You may need to update it over Wi-Fi. It's not difficult to use. My dad uses this thing and shows me the functions all the time. Be patient and play around with it. It can even call Google when connected to Wi-Fi to help diagnose vehicles.
