I have RA and our freezer doesn't have an automatic ice maker so we had to use ice trays. It's getting harder and harder to turn the trays, and the cold doesn't help the pain. A friend mentioned that he would like to try them. When I first got them I was beyond freaking excited about the beautiful flowers lol. I washed them, let them dry and put them in the freezer. A few hours later, the next time I wanted to fill my cold water bottle, I grabbed a handful and threw them in. When I drank I spat it out almost everywhere because I was expecting cold water but was given room temperature water. I noticed that they take longer to freeze than the water in the bowls. After figuring it out, I tried again. A bottle of water, a handful of FROZEN cubes, and the same thing happened. I was like wtf until I thought about physics. Ordinary ice cubes melt, releasing freshly thawed water and cooling it almost instantly. Because they don't melt, they only cool the water directly surrounding them. I waited about 10 minutes, gave the water bottle a good shake and took a sip of cool refreshing water. They don't seem to keep it as cold as ice cubes, but it's cold enough to be a refreshing drink on a hot day. Plus the colors are fun. I'm even considering buying a second pack because I alternate using 2 water bottles (one water, one Gatorade) and 10 cubes each and they just can't freeze fast enough. I found putting them in a metal tray helped freeze them faster, so I highly recommend this (I use a vintage lever-type ice tray). All in all a great product. I wish there were a bit more instructions in the box so I didn't have to do the science myself, but it gave my brain a little exercise so I'm not *really* angry. This might help other users to include some instructions so they don't have to go through the trial and error like I did. Update: While I still think this is a great product, they don't work as well as I would like in my coolers. They just didn't keep them as cool as ice cubes. I keep them for cocktails and don't regret the purchase at all. I've also found that if I leave these ice cream trays on the counter for about 30 seconds before rolling, the ice cream falls out immediately. Life Pro tip for people with accessibility issues.
