Review on Black & Decker πŸ”§ DR201K 8-Inch Keyless Power Drill by Hector Smith

Good but not perfect

I've had this drill for a while now and while I'm relatively happy with it there are two things that really irk me. First, the lack of a chuck key sometimes causes the drill to slip under heavy loads. This has often happened to me with round shank drills. My workaround was to buy drill bits with shafts that have at least one flat side. This solves the problem, but these flat side drills are more expensive. Secondly, the actuation function is hard and does not allow the user to simply use this variable speed drill as a screwdriver. Sometimes I use it as a screwdriver, but I have to be VERY careful not to spin the screw too fast or snap off the head of the screw. In general, the drill is fairly powerful, inexpensive, and works well with drill bits that have a flat side that the chuck can grip securely. Round bits are fine too, as long as you don't stress them too much. (With a keyless chuck, you sometimes wish that drill had an old-fashioned keyed chuck.) You can also use this drill as a random screwdriver, but it doesn't like that role and forces you to take extra care in keeping screws neatly twisted.
