Review on Gardman R352 Black Garden Obelisk - 96" High For Elevated Garden Style by Andrew Lyons

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Read Aug 27 review in my review

I needed something larger and read all reviews before buying this item. It came from Revain shipped in a bathtub size box with my new apple keyboard banging around. No packing. That is Revain I am not happy with. Order separately.About the frame. It is pretty. It will serve my purpose. Instructions are ok, you can assemble without really reading them and I suggest reading other reviews for ideas rather than the ones included. I first put on the 'wrong' leg (only 1) before I saw it didn't make sense. The ones without holes go on the bottom. I decided to assemble bottom 2/3 separate from top and place the top once the base part is in the ground. (not done yet). I will get rebar (my idea but others said the same thing) and place that and put frame over top. That will add height as well, but the part for making the hole is kind of useless where I live. Heavy hard clay soil. Very hard to get thru without a point. Rebar is smaller. Rebar will also hopefully lengthen the life.I wonder how long the plastic finial will last and bet someday I will have to replace it. The same for the rubber joint rings (like non-sticky electrical tape). I am also thinking the screws will work loose and will have to be watched. Screws. a special screwdriver is recommended which I did not have. Why not include a tool? Also, one of them is a hex so I had to go get that tool. How did I get a hex when the other 11 are the other type? Anyway, 1 star removed for no tool, wrong screw, weird instructions that could be better with better hints. The 'hint' to line up the ground holes with the ring before assembly should be at the top of instructions. Not bottom corner. Too late, but good idea. I haven't placed item in ground. Durability in Southern California sun is unknown.

Pros
  • It provides a focal point in the garden, drawing attention to the beauty of the surrounding plants and flowers
Cons
  • The obelisk is not collapsible, making it difficult to store during off-seasons
