Review on 🐠 Garmin 010-01550-00 Striker 4 GPS Fishfinder: Chirp Transducer and 3.5" Display by Ryan Fitch

Works reasonably well with major limitations but

This GPS fish finder works fairly well, very sensitive to tenths of a foot depth readings and GPS calculated speed and fish identification seems good too. Weaknesses are design details that indicate a limited expected lifespan compared to my last unit which had very tightly screwed connectors where they were simple, pluggable, very small and soft and not very tight when plugged in. It's also a little finicky, has a slight chamfer to indicate how to insert two plugs and the pins are very small. Connectors aside, the way the 'head' unit attaches to the swivel base is really very unreliable. It is almost impossible to insert the head unit into the base without detaching the bracket from the base. These ties are just too easy to break or pull apart with very little effort. Yes, the system allows the main unit to rotate and tilt at the base, but everything shifts very easily if a force, unintentional or not, is applied to the unit. It is very easy to be ripped off by a thief if you wish. Finally, the screen fades too easily in the sun and is not visible with sunglasses in the sun, which is not cool. I have a bimini which gives some shade and makes the display readable in bright sunlight, without sunglasses of course, but without that bit of shade it would be almost impossible to read. My old white backlit LCD display may have been archaic, but it was a joy to read in any light. So with these limitations, the device works well enough, but I'm seriously concerned about its durability.
