UPDATED: I returned the first pot (due to the issues listed below) but was so impressed with the size (big family here) that I decided to give the replacement another try. It still has slits in the lid. I can only imagine that this increases the cooking time considerably! There are also pits on the second shard (see photo). When I contacted Hamilton Beach about this issue, they informed me that this was a "normal" part of the process and that the shard would work fine. I've had many potsherds (mostly crock pot) over the years and have never had a hole like this one. Hamilton Beach refused to do anything about this pitting problem. Your customer service is pathetic! Dissatisfied, to say the least! Please DO NOT buy this multicooker/multicooker. You will be disappointed. The lid does not fit the jug. There is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of air space at each end where the lid does not rest on the jug. The instructions say not to cook with the lid closed, but the open air space will drastically increase cooking time. Very bad quality! i will return it
