Hella unsurpassed sound

This is my third set of Hella Supertone horns. The first 2 were bought a long time ago to improve the sound of Mercedes and Land Rover. They were made in Germany. This set was made in India. Aside from buying factory replacement horns for a car that you like the sound of, buying horns based on expectation of a specific sound or tone is actually quite complicated. I love the sound of the Supertones but I knew that before I bought them. They really do sound like Mercedes Benz horns from the 1970's and early 2000's. If you like that sound, you will definitely like these. Others may find the sound piercing. One thing is certain: any sustained explosion is not to be ignored. You will be noticed. You will be heard. These horns are directional, so care should be taken to point them forward whenever possible. The supplied mounting bracket can only be used if you are replacing a similar type of horn. Please note that you may need to make a custom mount to properly mount the horns. I had to do that. Also note that these horns are actually quite large and may not fit where the original horn was mounted. I prefer the slightly smaller 4" horn for easier installation. They were installed on the 2007 Ford Escape. I had to remove the inner fender liner and front bumper cover to access the original horn. Took 4 hours to disassemble and assemble. Fabricating brackets and installing all the wiring to and from the sirens and relays took another couple of hours. Well worth it, but it was a full day's work. Plan your time accordingly. I should note that you should use the relay supplied need to use or make sure your own car has a dedicated 15 amp circuit for the original horn. Most don't. Failure to follow the instructions for hooking up the audio signal will result in a reduction in volume. This voltage drop explains some of the poor reviews on this one product. In addition, the instructions are very clear only if you are used to read electrical diagrams. Otherwise they stink. Wiring Instructions for Hella Relays: These instructions are for vehicles where the horn button activates the horn when depressed and the ground is permanent. Terminal 85: chassis ground. 87: Output for new beeps Terminal 30: 12V constant with 15A fuse Please let me know if this review is helpful. Much luck.
