Really good update for 4runner! Miles ahead of the OEM device and Entune. If you're hesitant to buy this device, here are some of my first thoughts: Pros: 1) Versatility. Think of it as a full-featured Android tablet that also works with the 4runners radio, door settings, unlock options, steering wheel controls, and gives you built-in telemetry. It comes preinstalled on the Google App Store and you can install just about any app you want as long as you use internet sharing on your phone. 2) quality. I'm no expert on electronics, but as far as I can tell the design of the device looks solid. The trim around the unit perfectly matches the original colors and interior finishes and nothing is displaced. There is an online review of the same device for the Corolla where they ran a lot of technical tests and concluded that the device is good. 3) Expandable memory slot to store offline maps, music, videos, etc. 4) Offline navigation. . Even if you don't have internet access on long journeys or are traveling off the main route, the device has a GPS receiver and a pre-installed navigation app. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but if you need to know where to have a medical helicopter pick you up, it's great. 5) Android Auto. It works great and what a pleasure to use on 4runner! A small point to note is that Android Auto works with a wired USB connection; However, none of the three USB ports can fast charge the phone. The best way is to connect it wirelessly via bluetooth by enabling bluetooth tethering on your phone. Cons: only one big. 1) Instructions. The installation instructions leave a lot to be desired. If you do it yourself, it gets a little tricky, especially if you've never changed your head unit before. You will be given a small piece of paper that says Step 10 "Reposition Bleed and AC Button" and Step 11 says "Connect Wiring Harness" and Step 12 says "Check All Functions". That's it, no instructions on which cable goes where or how to properly remove the air vents from the old frame and attach them to the new one. You will be given a QR code for a video on how to install, but even the video skips detailed steps on how to install properly. You can still do this, but remember you'll probably need to do more research yourself to ensure you don't break the clips and position the vents correctly. I really hope the company takes action and provides more detailed installation instructions because what was supposed to take around 2 hours ended up taking 7. I recommend watching the T9 installation video online and it will give you a pretty good idea what is needed . what needs to be done and how to connect some cables. Some helpful installation tips to keep in mind for 2014-2019: - Have a towel or other padding handy when working with moving clamps, vents and alarm buttons to avoid screen cracking. or scratches - The ventilation slots are each held with 2 screws on the outside and 7 clips. Each side has 2 clips, 2 on the bottom and 1 on the top. I found it easier to remove them from the inside out, starting with 2 in the middle, then 2 on the bottom, then 1 on top. The yellow clips are easy to remove, just pull on each side BUT BE CAREFUL. TO BREAK THEM. If your 4runner came with XM Radio, you will likely see two boxes on the OEM unit. The bottom (smaller) box contains XM Radio stuff and you do NOT need to stream it. - There are two yellow wires that can be used for the rear view camera. I attached that to the big white clip. It must be connected to the yellow wire coming out of the device labeled CAM IN, in a key with two yellow, one red and one white. The antenna clip has blue and black wires. the black cable has an audio jack (e.g. for electric guitar or amplifier) that must be connected to the device, otherwise the radio will not work. I didn't have to install the external microphone that came with the device. The microphone is already integrated into the front panel and the call quality was very good. There are 3 USB cables coming out of the device. One is connected to a 4-pin terminal and the other two are connected to a 6-pin terminal. It looks like the 4-pin connector needs to be connected to the OEM USB via an adapter (long USB to square terminal). I don't have an iphone, but it looks like it's reserved for working with Apple Car Play (wired). The other two may be pointing to one of the decorative pieces that you removed first during installation. Android Auto works from any of the three. - There is a thin black ground wire. Don't forget to ground it or you will get static noise. I used one of the 4 standard screws that attach the block to the dash. Hope that helps. I will update the review in the future. Hooray!
