I looked at various models and decided on this one. I am very happy with it. What I liked is that it has a piece that attaches to the top to hold your tablet or phone. A few others are sold separately and I wasn't sure which would be compatible. The grips are excellent with padding that keeps them really secure. There were no instructions included. At first it wasn't wide enough for my 10.1-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab A, but I found the release button on the back to increase the height of the grips, and then it fitted with free space. Suitable for tablets in a horizontal position with a sturdy case. I didn't know how to tighten the retainer either, it slowly continued to move down. I found that I had to twist the long handle forward to tighten it. I used it for a virtual family reunion and it worked great. It was stable with a tablet on it and I could easily place it in different places in the room.
