. Although I checked all my bases at the service entrance and in my gear - it was still there. I considered using a quality built in cable transformer but I was concerned about losing the high frequency channels and of course if I had a problem with the cable the cable man would wag his finger and remove it. I took a chance with a PAC LD10. It's not advertised for this app and I couldn't find any schematic or schematic documentation, but for the price I had nothing to lose. The first thing I did was open the case, which I thought was well done. My first impression was that the board is not the usual junk you see at this price point. The two main active components were the BA3121 ground bus isolator and the 4558 general purpose op amp. You can find the datasheets online if you want more information. So I was happy to see that some conscious thought went into the design of this device. Since it's designed for cars, I used an old 12V outlet for power. I could probably build one of these if I knew the circuit details, but it has a nicely laid out board, case, and connectors. So it makes no sense. Set it in line with the TV outputs on my stereo. Well it works I thought? I cranked up the gain controls (which were within fingertip reach when the case was off) and voila - music from my cable box. I actually connect the TV's outputs because the TV accepts cable box and Roku inputs. So, at the end of the line - no audible hum and it works as advertised. Very happy with my first statement. So now I can use my stereo to amplify the sound!
