Review on Powerline Pass Thru Homeplug Ethernet PLA6456KIT by Kevin Caldwell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to use and one of the fastest currently available

While this ZyXEL PLA5456 HomePlug AV2 MIMO powerline adapter is easy to use and one of the fastest currently available (April 2016 ) to live up to expectations moderate, one major caveat must be taken into account: although this is one of the fastest adapters available, you will never get the throughput listed for a powerline adapter. Unfortunately, that is the nature of the ATM industry. In the professional tests that led me to this product, it was one of the fastest of any powerline adapter, but their tests in their lab showed a top speed of 350Mbps, not the 1800Mbps advertised. This wasn't a problem for me as it was one of the fastest adapters I could currently buy and I still have a slower 100MB network at home. During testing, I found two adapters that connected in opposite directions. exceeded the speed of about 290 Mbps. It wasn't the house wiring, it was some kind of noise on my power lines. The two computers I used for the bandwidth test were able to communicate with each other at 940 Mbps (almost gigabit) when connected directly to each other. So the bottleneck was certainly the performance of the adapters. In my testing, I found a few other things to look out for that could affect performance. : minus 5-9 Mbps or minus 2-4%.* Turning on a dim socket in PLA (not the other way around, which is highly recommended!): -11 Mbps or -4%.* Turning on a noisy halogen lamp in the same twin socket as PLA : minus 16-42 Mbps or minus 7-18% (dimming increases interference).* Home: -150 Mbps or -52%. It should be noted that moving the router's PLA to a socket on another switch in the same room only reduced the drift to a distant socket by -11 Mbps, or -4%. . Much better than the -150Mbps/-52% shown above. So if you're doing a speed test, be sure to try other outlets near your origin and destination, as long as they're within range. they seem to have improved it by 10Mbps or 7%. Therefore, your personal environment is very important to the performance of the adapter. in-in and use its configuration and encryption keys on both devices. I used iPerf on Mac OSX to test throughput. even a lab!), this adapter is still one of the fastest made to date and has outperformed my 100Mbps home network and my 802.11g WiFi network in all cases. I use it through circuit breakers in the back of my house for a wired network PTZ camera. Hope this is useful!
