Didn't help bad manual bad software

I'm having a problem with low wifi bandwidth in the back corner of my house. After reading the rave reviews, I purchased this product. The adapter I placed next to the router refused to connect to the adapter in the other room. I got two closer just to try and it still didn't work. When they were finally placed in two outlets on the same circuit, only a few feet apart, they connected - very unreliably, turning on and off randomly. And even there, the "Home" indicator, which is supposed to show…

A quick, inexpensive fix when Wi-Fi or cables don't work

This is my second set of Zyxel powerline adapters. I bought my first Zyxel PLA5405 kit in 2018 and it has proven to be incredibly reliable. Now I had to add 2 more places. And I wasn't sure if these newer PLA5456 units would be backwards compatible (as it turns out, they were!). This is a good solution when the WiFi is not strong enough in a certain part of the house. Or maybe you don't want WiFi for some special reason. Obviously a Category 6 cable is the best solution, but sometimes it can be

Much better than a WiFi extender

I originally used a WiFi extender to speed up my upstairs office but it didn't help at all. Later someone told me about these pass-through ethernet adapters. The catch is that the computer needs to be connected to the adapter with an ethernet cable, but that was fine with me. I believe you can effectively turn it into a WiFi extender by using an adapter with another router and the WiFi router will work. But I didn't try. We were able to increase the download speed from 2-5 MB per second to…

Far from the advertised transfer speeds, but a noticeable improvement.

For the past eight years I've had a trusted pair of NetGear Powerline AV200 adapters that have been very reliable. However, we're considering cutting the cable from our cable provider, and while Netflix is streaming to our TV through these old adapters, I figured it was time to switch to a higher definition stream without delay. NetGear stated that these older adapters had data rates of "up to 200 Mbps with real-world throughput in excess of 80 Mbps." Before replacing them with Zyxel adapters…

Not bad, but not as good as I had hoped.

My home office is at the opposite end of the house from my cable modem/router. The distance from the router to my desktop computer is about 40 feet. Until recently, I used a dual-band USB wireless adapter for my main internet connection. Sometimes when I needed a faster, more reliable connection, I would pull out my trusty 100-foot Ethernet cable and connect my computer directly to the router. I really liked the faster connection, but my wife hated the cable that ran all the way through the…

Easy to use and one of the fastest currently available

While this ZyXEL PLA5456 HomePlug AV2 MIMO powerline adapter is easy to use and one of the fastest currently available (April 2016 ) to live up to expectations moderate, one major caveat must be taken into account: although this is one of the fastest adapters available, you will never get the throughput listed for a powerline adapter. Unfortunately, that is the nature of the ATM industry. In the professional tests that led me to this product, it was one of the fastest of any powerline adapter…
