Don't waste your money/time

Use case: A fisherman from shore is looking for a way to accurately determine the contour of the bottom Ease of use:1. Simple enough to prepare the device for use2. Extremely awkward to use: After the transducer is formed, you have to hold the device in such a way that you can rotate the display, which is extremely awkward. Accuracy: complete joke! I spent over 12 hours testing this $170 device on a body of water I know well. I've thrown repeatedly in the same spot in shallow, calm water. The readings varied widely from 4.5 to 13.2. I'm aware of the many factors that go into sonar readings, the main thing for this device would be the wave motion if the device were accurate to begin with (ie is there wind, the scatter is even worse) and yes, the sensitivity of the device etc. d. were installed correctly. If there was even a 1-2 foot difference I could live with that. Conclusion: This is not a sonar or sonar. For full disclosure, I only had the patience to test the cast block and NOT the floating ice/kayak converter. If I weren't intimately familiar with the body of water I was testing on, I would at least be confused as to the depth and contour. I hope you save money and wasted time.
